Jatinder (Taj) Baidwan
A distinguished physician, public servant, and healthcare leader, Dr. Baidwan currently serves as British Columbia’s Chief Coroner, becoming the first Sikh to hold the position. Holding one of the province’s most senior public service roles, he exemplifies the Sikh values of integrity, humility, compassion, and seva through a lifetime of service and leadership.
Dr. Baidwan began his professional journey in the UK, serving as a Medical Officer in the British Army for two decades. His service included deployments to Iraq and Bosnia, humanitarian missions around the world, in some of the world’s most challenging environments. He also ceremonially guarded Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, as well as other members of the Royal Family. These experiences forged a leadership philosophy grounded in discipline, resilience, and service to others.
Before joining the B.C. Coroners Service, Dr. Baidwan served as Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer of Island Health, helping oversee health services for nearly one million British Columbians. His journey from military service to one of BC’s most senior public service roles reflects the values, resilience and integrity of Sikh professionals helping shape the institutions that serve Canadians.
At a time when Sikh Canadians are leading major corporations, strengthening public institutions, driving economic growth, and serving at the highest levels of government, health care, and civic life, the Sikh Business Council is building a platform to connect, elevate, amplify and advance just that.
As Sikh Canadians continue to expand their contribution to Canada’s economic, civic, and institutional future, leaders such as Dr. Baidwan demonstrate the role our community can play in shaping the next chapter of nation building.
We are deeply honoured to welcome Dr. Jatinder Singh (Taj) Baidwan to the Sikh Business Council’s Community Leadership Council as we continue building a stronger, more connected, and engaged Sikh ecosystem for our community.
